The Surgical Technology Program of Lamar State College-Port Arthur provides instruction which prepares graduates for entry-level surgical technology positions. The courses in the Surgical Technology Program allow students to acquire the skills and demeanor necessary to function in the surgical suite and deliver competent care to surgical patients. Surgical technologists are responsible for the preparation of supplies and equipment for surgical procedures, for assisting surgeons during operative procedures by passing instruments, for ensuring that surgical equipment functions properly and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. The Surgical Technology Program provides students with the option of receiving either a one-year certificate or a two-year Associate of Applied Science degree.
